Feng shui consultants don't understand the laws of physics and they don't want to learn. They suffer from a delusion that they are the future of architecture and building design, when nothing could be further from the truth.
It's pure arrogance on the part of feng shui consultants. Architects study for many years to learn their craft. They have to know the laws of physics to construct buildings. They have to pass tests for licensing and certification. Yet someone can take a weekend class in feng shui and start calling themselves an expert, and think they know more than an architect. Feng shui people remain woefully ignorant of building codes, standards of workmanship, legal liability—even the principle of due diligence.
Physics isn't just a good idea—it provides the immutable laws by which humans construct buildings. Building codes supply standards for safe design. Why do these one-weekend wonders who call themselves “feng shui experts” think they know more than someone with an education in physics, building codes, construction methods, and design?
So far, it is the architects who are more willing to spend time thinking about "blended design" (including feng shui in architectural projects). It is the feng shui consultants who have displayed the arrogance for which they are justifiably infamous. The following comment is typical of many responses.
I have been practicing Feng Shui for the past 2 years ... I leave it to my clients to make the judgment, surely not the architects, contractors or others involved in the project. …I would say the arrogance and ignorance attitudes are really the architects not the other way round. …They know they have to change with the times. Feng Shui is here to stay whether they like it or not.… Just deal with it.
