Black and white -- and bad luck?

arva187 asks:

Question

Black tiles with combination of white tiles in the bathroom are bad lucks? Our bath room is facing south east.

Answer

If you prefer McFengshui then the answer is easy because I can invent one on the spot: Yes, it’s very bad. To cure this problem you must believe that the tiles are red and green, and buy several chi-enhancing trinkets from my online store.

But to be honest, and ethical, the answer to the question requires a lot of information.

  • The age of the building — that is, the year it was constructed
  • The date of any significant remodels (such as pulling off the roof for an extended period of time, a change in the footprint, etc.)
  • The surrounding environment in terms of feng shui. Not just driveways and roof lines pointing at your front door. Where are the mountains? Is there a building behind that is larger, or one in front? How tall are the trees and buildings, and what shape? Is there a slope to the land? What is the compass reading where you first see traffic from your front door, and the compass reading where you first see traffic leave?
  • The compass reading for the building, taking into account the correct sitting and facing
  • The calculations based on time (construction year or years) and space (footprint changes, building layout, sitting and facing, compass readings)

In other words, to know exactly what is going on, you need to have your house analyzed by a competent practitioner.

The only thing I can say without having all the facts is that the colors are in the productive cycle (white=metal, black=water) — that is never a bad thing.

How do you determine absolute north without a compus? I have a general idea but I want to be more precise.
Also, in an apartment, would the location of the front door indicate the direction that the living unit is facing?

Thank you.
